CAMBOFEST: FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL APPOINTED AS OFFICIAL SUBMISSION ORGANISATION FOR 2008 ASIA PACIFIC SCREEN AWARDS
Cambofest: Film and Video Festival is delighted to confirm that it has been appointed to be the Official Submission Organisation for Cambodia for the 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) the region’s highest accolade in film.
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards acclaim, at a global level, the cinematic excellence and cultural diversity of the vast Asia-Pacific region in a unique collaboration with CNN International, UNESCO and FIAPF – International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
The Cambofest: Film and Video Festival was invited by FIAPF and APSA to become an Official Submission Organisation. The Cambofest: Film and Video Festival will submit eligible Cambodian feature films for consideration in the 2008 Awards, to be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, on November 11.
Official Submission Organisations may enter a total of up to two feature films to be considered across the four film categories: Feature, Children’s, Animation and Documentary. Entries close September 1, 2008.
The independent APSA Nominations Council comprising distinguished international film industry members will meet in Brisbane, Australia, from September 20 - 26 to decide up to five (5) nominees in each Award achievement for final judging by the international Jury.
Academy-Award™ nominated director Bruce Beresford is President of the APSA 2008 Jury. Additional members of this five (5) panel Jury will be announced shortly.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural Awards, APSA will, in addition to the Awards Ceremony, continue to produce television programs in collaboration with CNN International, which will be broadcast to its global audience. These programs will provide significant promotion for the region’s film cultures, films, filmmakers, and nominees and winners of the 2008 Awards.
The Asia Pacific Screen Awards is an international cultural initiative of the Queensland Government, Australia.
For film entry enquiries in Cambodia visit www. or telephone. For information on the Asia Pacific Screen Awards or to view the APSA trailer visit www.asiapacificscreenawards.com.

Angkor Thom Magazione article from CamboFest 2007
Finally found a copy of Ankor Thom Magazine, feauturing coverage of CamboFest they'd done for last year's CamboFest--my friend Houy told me she'd "see a picture of me in a magazine" (along with a Golden Waterbuffalo) so I know this had to be it.
Herewith, please find scans of the article...
By the waqy, the WAB listing problem wasn't actually a problem at all; our liason had suspended the listing to provide us time to conduct the anticipatd dates change for CamboFest, since the last day of regular submissions was nigh-had she not locked the listing (de-listed it) we would have been compelled to continue with the original dates, since the new month would have begun already.
Anyway the short of it is, we were delistd for benign and legitimate reasons, basically to allow us a couple days to settle our new dates.
(((More later)))

Temporary delist from Withouabox ~ Please use other submission methods
Hi--
Mentioned to WAB yesterday that we may wat to shift the main festval dates for CamboFest til after rainy season, that is, til December/Jan with the original June date staying put as a preview event...then heard back that until those specific new dates were settled, we'd be OFFLINE for submisisons via WAB. (?!)
Didn't know that was coming...anyway, we're still on track for original June dates and if there's any questionj about submitting, please visit our suubmissions page at :
www.cambofest.com
To submit via the valid, traditional methods til we can get the WAB mechanism sorted out--
Thanks so far for all submissions!

New Screening Room Set Up near Wat Phnom!
CamboFest is happy to announce that we've secured a dedicated space to screen submissions (via projector on a big screen) in a space near Wat Phnom and the US embassy...now that we've got our space, we've started to view submissions for the 2008 edition.
Some good work coming in--filmmakers, keep an eye out for screening notes via email or the WAB email system!

Back in Asia / New Call for Entries
Back in Asia again after a whirlwind tour to promote CamboFest in the USA...met with some great folks from Cambodia Town in Long Beach, CA (near LA).
In general, huge interest on the part of industry folks on both coasts, who all wanted to see the continued success of CamboFest--in addition to some curiosity and wonder about how we even managed to pull off the first 207 edition in Phnom Penh!
Anyway, a new call for entries is underway for the 2008 edition, with events planned again for both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap--already a big turnout with plenty of submissions rolling in, by filmmakers across the globe who want to show their movies in new places in the developing world.
Thanks to everyone who's submitted their movies so far--winners in all categories will receive the coveted Grabay Meas ("Golden Waterbuffalo") Trophy!

Gearing up for CamboFest: Siem Reap 2007
Now gearing up for CamboFest: Siem Reap Edition 2007, to be held at various venues in Siem Reap (Angkor Wat City), November 30-December 2.
We're hoping to pull off a complete mirror of the program in Phnom Penh this past June, with some new movies; but we'll have to see how the $ goes.
Remember, advertisers, sponsors and supporters, you can still get on board! Email me at jrosette@cambofest.com to see how you can be involved!

Not too much to install, chairs coming later. Big banner outside looks GREAT, will try to post that pic ASAP.
Nico from Metahouse has just come back from Germany, so will have to tweak his space later this afternnon, and most challenginsly, install the BIG SCREEN downstairs.
(((Thanks for all your support, Kampuchea!)))

Steady as She Goes
Despite agonizingly slow internet here, things move forward for CamboFest! Not sure how many filmmakers will attend, Greg Cahill (The Golden Voice) will show.
Haven't notified any rejections yet because, until the schedule is technically completely locked (5 days - week before) there's always a chance that more room will open in the schedule, etc...also there's new talk of Venu "X" opening, a mysterious third venue which would allow us to show more movies than we currently have time for in the schedule! ;)
Burnt out; must head to Kep for a few days to get my wind back...Vuth and others also taking a few days off
